FAQs
What is a PAT Test ?
A Portable Appliance Test (PAT) uses a combination of visual identification and electronic tests to verify the safety of an electronic appliance. A PAT test determines whether or not the appliance is safe. An appliance either passes or fails a PAT test, after which it is issued with a pass or fail sticker.
All of our engineers can carry out minor repairs during a PAT test to address minor faults, such as replacing fuses or tightening up loose wiring.
On completion you will be issued with a certificate of inspection for each appliance, which can be used as evidence of compliance when dealing with insurers and The Health & Safety Executive.
All appliances capable of connecting to mains electricity are eligible for a PAT test. These include IT equipment, kitchen appliances, televisions and display equipment, monitors, extension leads, kettles, vacuum cleaners and extension leads.
Do I need a PAT Test ?
If you are a business or landlord, regular PAT tests are considered to be the most effective means of complying with your legal obligations under the Electrical Regulations and the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974). PAT tests themselves are not obligatory, although failure to ensure that electrical equipment is safe for use can result in extensive fines and even criminal prosecutions if accidents occur.
